In zijn derde schooljaar op Zweinstein komt Harry flink in de problemen. Sirius Zwarts is uit de gevangenis van Azkaban ontsnapt en lijkt het op Harry voorzien te hebben. Hoewel Zweinstein wordt bewaakt door geheimzinnige Dementors, blijken zij een duister effect op Harry te hebben.
